Spotlight on Micellar Water

What is Micellar Water?

Micellar water has become increasingly popular and for very good reason. It’s claim to fame is it’s ability to remove makeup, cleanse, and tone with just a few light swipes of a cotton ball without causing inflammation or irritation to your skin.

Micellar waters are made using purified water, moisturizers like glycerin, and mild surfactants, which are compounds used for cleansing. They are comprised of dirt-loving micelle molecules that attach to makeup and debris to break it down. Plus, they are free of alcohol which helps promote skin hydration, keeping your skin soft, supple, and smooth.

What are the Benefits and Uses of Micellar Water?

1. Promotes skin hydration

Micellar water contains glycerin, an ingredient that can help support skin hydration. It also contains surfactants that are very mild and less irritating for those who have dry skin. It’s not sticky at all and when you are done using, your skin feels incredibly refreshed and hydrated.

2. Removes dirt and oil

Say good bye to your make up wipes! Very few wipes contain ingredients that will actually break down all of your face oils, makeup, and gunk on your skin. In most cases you are really just rubbing bacteria, irritants, and makeup-wipe residue around your skin and into your pores.

Instead, try using micellar water with a cotton pad (I personally love these organic cotton rounds) to remove your makeup, dirt, and oil from your skin. Several ingredients in micellar water (not found in traditional makeup remover wipes) can increase skin permeability which allows for a deeper cleanse.

3. Good for all skin types

You can use micellar water on all skin types. You may find it especially beneficial if you have sensitive skin, as it can help reduce skin inflammation and irritation.

4. Keeps skin clear

Micellar water can help remove dirt and oil, which in the long run may help prevent blocked pores and pimples and keeps the skin clear. It’s actually my secret weapon right now to fight off the dreaded maskne. If you missed my post about how to prevent maske, (acne caused by the increased amount of time wearing a mask) click HERE.

5. Portable and convenient

Micellar water is portable, easy to use, and convenient. I keep a bottle in my gym bag and find that it’s perfect to take along for any outdoor summer events where you may need a little freshening up. I have also found it to be extremely helpful when I go camping and do not have running water to wash my face at night.
